After two days of long travel, our group finally arrived in Tanzania. When I stepped off the plane I realized that we were caught in a dust storm. Standing there, shielding ourselves from the strong winds and dust, we waited for almost two hours before we got to immigration. Tired and grumpy after having just got off of the plane and passed immigration, we walked out to the carousel to find out that none of our bags made the plane to Tanzania from Amsterdam except for one, Iñigo’s. After, we met with our trip leaders Agata and James and drove an hour to Njoro Village where we are staying for our trip.

Waking up at 8:30am we had our first breakfast in Tanzania: fried eggs, porridge, chapati (Tanzanian crepe), toast and sausage. After breakfast we were given the opportunity to attend a Christian Pentecostal Church, but it was more for the cultural experience not the religious experience. It felt more like a zumba class than Church because throughout the service we danced and sang. On our way back to the guest house we took a detour to see the project we would be picking up and working on. After lunch we planned our lesson for the next day with primary school kids. When we finished we were greeted by Mama Pottery, a local potter, who showed us and eventually let us try to make our own pots. Mama, our host mom, showed us the fabrics that she uses to make clothes and I was able to choose what I wanted to make from the fabric that I chose.
